Upside Down Umbrella

Picture
upside-down umbrella Formed in 2001 as a collaboration between Jeremy Keenan and Alex Abalos. Jeremy stems from the group topaapobwaii (katabatik records), with the addition of Ande Underwood (permutation) to further the group's live performances. One night while skulking down the halls of a San Francisco recording college, Jeremy heard the ethereal, atmospheric sounds of a heavily processed guitar ring through an open studio door, and followed it to it's source. Thus the introduction was made with Alex. The two were soon recording the beginnings of their first recorded work, "are you walking in the rain?". A combination of tightly fused electronic rhythms, textures, and manipulated field recordings with airy, crystalline guitars always present, Upside Down Umbrella offers up a varied mix of rainy day soundtracks, somber strains, and buoyant, undulating cadences. UDU continue in their collaborative effort to interpret, isolate, manipulate, and seduce the everyday domain of sonic background into cohesive, engaging edifices of calculated aural manifestation.
